Global warming is real and we are at its mercy. But we can still do something about it. Each one of us has a part to play to save Planet Earth.
Here’s how.
1. Put away the plastic. The plastic bags you bring home from the supermarket probably end up in a landfill. Every year, more than 500 billion plastic bags are distributed and less than 3% of those bags are recycled. They are typically made of polyethylene and can take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade in landfills that emit harmful greenhouse gases. Reducing your contribution to plastic-bag pollution is as simple as using a cloth bag (or one made of biodegradable plant-based materials) instead of wasting plastic ones.
skrg dah ade 'No Plastic Bag Day'.. how about kite buat 'No Plastic Bag Everyday?!'2. Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs.Compact fluorescent produce the same amount of light as normal bulbs, but use about a quarter of the electricity and last 10 times as long. The switch you make would not only save you money on your electricity bill, but help curb global warming.
same efficiency.. longer usage period.. maybe cost more a bit.. but i think.. it is worth spending more.. rite? for our ol' earth sake! 3. Smart water usage.Fix low-flow shower heads and faucets and you’ll use half the water without reducing performance. Then turn your hot water heater down to 120F and see hot-water costs go down by as much as 50%!
thank goodness i didnt use water heater for bathing.. so i save 100%! but anyway i need to fix my shower head..4. Reduce! Reuse! Recycle!Producing new paper, glass and metal products from recycled materials saves 70% to 90% (WOW!) of the energy and pollution. Recycling a stack of newspapers only four feet high will save a good-sized tree. Why do you need to save trees? Trees give out Oxygen for us and take in Carbon Dioxide (everyone know bout this..). The fewer trees we have, the more CO2 in the air. One of CO2’s characteristics is that it keeps heat. When heat is trapped under the ozone layer, it melts the ice bergs in the North and South Poles. That’s when you get freak weather conditions and floods. Why do we need to recycle as much as possible? Factories use a lot of fuel and energy and these processes ultimately result in the emission of CO2, which would all contribute to global warming.
sigh.. CO2 emission is quite harder to control by us - the individuals.. especially when the factories.. manufacturers.. are simply emit the gas.. however.. if the 'individuals' involves people that well-known - Ludacris and Tommy Lee? and it really helps.. anyway.. our small contribution means a lot to the ol' earth.. so go 3R!5. Go green!Planting trees is a huge step towards reducing global warming. Trees breathe in CO2 but, sadly, deforestation and logging are destroying nature's flora. So, get your shovel now and start planting! Planting shade trees around your house will absorb CO2, as well as cut air-conditioning bills.
hate the view from PGA to KL.. bukit botak weh!!! i wish i could do some shoveling.. but i dont have garden as i live up at 4th floor.. but hey.. lets make use of the genius invention of vase.. and thank goodness cuz i dont use air-conditioner..6. Clothing care.A Cambridge University Institute of Manufacturing study found that 60% of the energy associated with a piece of clothing is spent in washing and drying it. Over its lifetime, a T-shirt can send up to 9 lbs. of carbon dioxide into the air! (OMG!!)
The solution is not to avoid doing laundry but wash your clothes in warm water instead of hot and save up to launder several big loads instead of many smaller ones. Dry your clothes by hanging them on a line rather than loading them in a dryer. Altogether you can reduce the CO2 created by your laundry up to 90%!
once again.. i dont use dryer.. i use the sun heat.. ahaha! especially when the climate is in chaos.. the sun shine unmercifully.. so my clothes dry up quickly.. so.. abandon ur dryer! use the nature source! and wash ur laundry once a week! get bigger stinky clothes basket!!7. Pay Bills OnlineEliminating your paper trail by banking and paying bills via the Net does more than save trees. It also helps reduce fuel consumption by the trucks and planes that transport paper. This also would cut solid waste disposal.
yep.. CIMB clicks dah ade.. Maybank2u dah ade.. P1wimax pon bleh byr online.. so? fully utilize them! save time.. save energy.. save the trees.. save the earth.. saving US!8. Say no to steak. The international meat industry generates about 18% of the world’s greenhouse-gas emissions even more than transportation according to a report last year from the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization.
(hoh!)Much of that comes from the nitrous oxide in manure and the methane that is, as the New York Times put it, the natural result of bovine digestion. Methane has a warming effect that is 23 times as great as that of carbon, while nitrous oxide is 296 times as great.
(erk!)There are 1.5 billion cattle and buffalo on the planet, along with 1.7 billion sheep and goats. Their populations are rising fast, especially in the developing world. Global meat production is expected to double between 2001 and 2050. Given the amount of energy consumed raising, shipping and selling livestock, a 16-oz.T-bone is like a Hummer on a plate.
If you switch to eating greens, you can shrink your carbon footprint by up to 1.5 tons of carbon dioxide a year, according to research by the University of Chicago.
hoah.. aku n hubby jarang gile makan daging2 ni.. kami more to chicken and fish.. sebab tak lalu.. darah membuak2.. huhu.. tp mmg.. ade study on tahap kentut haiwan2 ternakan ni.. carbon content mmg tinggi dr transportation punye emission.. which is.. so.. scary.. so marilah kite makan more vegetables.. and white meats.. supaya emission gas dr kite tak selevel ngan lembu karbau n kambenk.. sbb 'we are what we ate..'9. Drive wisely.A well-tuned car with properly inflated tires burns less gasoline cutting pollution and saving you money at the petrol kiosk. If you have two cars, use the one with better gas mileage whenever you can. Better still, skip the wheels and take public transport, walk, or ride your bicycle.
i can always check the tyres.. cukup angin ke idak.. aku bleh aje.. tutup enjin bile tunggu org.. aku bleh je naik beskal utk pegi kedai.. tp kalau nk naik public.. mintak hampon.. terutama bas.. tak sanggup terpeluk mamat Nepal or Myanmar!! sebagai kontra.. aku bwk kete slow2.. buleh kan?10. Plant a bamboo fence.Bamboo makes a beautiful fence, and because it grows so quickly, it absorbs more CO2 than, say, a rosebush.
ptt chinese and japanese ske bamboo.. and patotla dorg melepak2.. ekekek! tanam yg byk daun2 hijo pon dh cukup membantu.. lalang pon ok.. 11. Take off the tie.Leave your tie in your closet and you can help fight climate change. In the summer of 2005, Japanese workers swapped their trademark dark blue business suits for open collars and light tropical colors. It was all part of the Japanese Government’s effort to save energy by keeping its office temperatures at 82.4 F throughout the summer. That summer, Japan cut an estimated 79,000 tons of CO2.
ni macam ape yg Pak Lah nk buat.. tp lagi merciful la.. tutup aircond time break aje.. pastu bile abes break.. full blast la ape lagi.. ekekek! nk wat cane.. Malaysia panas woo.. nk nk pas tgh hari.. tp bile mlm pon nk beraircond.. tak berpada lah.. nasib keje swasta.. ekekke! 12. Turn off your PC.According to the US Department of Energy, 75% of all the electricity consumed in the home is standby power used to keep electronics running when those TVs, DVD players, computers, monitors and stereos are off. The average desktop computer, not including the monitor, consumes from 60 to 250 watts a day. Compared with a machine left on 24/7, a computer that is in use four hours a day and turned off the rest of the time would save you about RM260 a year. The carbon impact would be even greater. Shutting it off would reduce the machine's CO2 emissions 83 per cent.
dolu2 mase kat UTM.. haram aku nk off pc.. yela.. nk bg YM aku senantiasa senyum kan.. pastu bleh la tulis status 'going to Finite Element class.. ergh!' heheh.. pastu bile keje.. table fan aku haram nk off.. setakat tuko kelajuan aje.. konon nk bg good ventilation la.. tp pas kawen.. en. Hubby sgt concern.. sebelum kuar umah.. segala mane brg electronic di switch off.. kecuali fridge la.. segala plug segala socket.. OFF! memule aku rase cam aduyai.. tp pk2 blk.. ade bagusnye.. :) go Hubby GO! 13. DIY cleaning supply. You can make cheap, easy, and non-toxic cleaning products that really work by using simple ingredients like baking soda, vinegar and soap. Save money, time, and your indoor air quality at the same time.
using ur fruit and vegetable waste.. pastu letak dlm bekas bersama gula/garam - need to check - and dibiarkan fermented for 30 day in cool dark cabinet.. and voila! ur natural washing detergent! nk bagi bau limau.. letak kulit limau byk2!14. Start talkingAsk your local authority to set up a responsible recycling and hazardous waste collection event if your area does not already have one. Plus, pass the green message around.
ade waste collection booth area umah aku.. so mari lah mempergunakan ia sepenuh2nya! pastu.. copy this note -exclude my Note- and post it anywhere! in ur blog or ur note! anywhere! Now, draw out a list and see how green you life is thus far. Keep this list and let’s see it grow. Have a
Green Day.
